Syli knitted dress (English)

€6.00

Syli is a minimalistic and loosely fitted knitted dress featuring cables all over.

The Syli dress is knitted down in one piece. The front and back pieces are first knitted separately flat until the armpits; afterwards, the body is knitted in the round to full length. The back piece is knitted first, and the shoulder seams are shaped using the European shoulder technique. The front piece is knitted top down, picking up the stitches from the shoulder seams of the back piece. The neckline is constructed by knitting the left and right shoulders separately up to the bottom of the neckline. After that, the front piece is knitted in one piece until the armpits. The sleeve stitches are picked up from the armhole and the sleeve is knitted in the round top down. The Syli knitted dress features a cable pattern that repeats uniformly throughout the entire garment.

Since Syli is knitted top down, it's easy to adjust the length to suit your preference! You can use this pattern to knit either a sweater, mini, midi, or maxi dress. The length of the dress, as well as your height, will significantly affect the amount of yarn needed.

Sizing
XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL

Fit
Syli is oversized and straight-lined knitted dress. It is designed to fit approximately with +30 cm positive ease to the bust measurement. The dress has dropped shoulders and armholes, and long relaxed sleeves. Choose a size with a circumference about +30 cm larger than your bust measurement or if you want a more fitted result, choose one size smaller.

Tip: If you don’t want a very relaxed fit when knitting a sweater version, consider one size smaller.

I am wearing size M in both versions (my bust circumference is 90 cm and my hip circumference is 100 cm). I am 164 cm tall, and the white maxi-length dress is approximately 130 cm long.

Measurements
Chest circumference: 107 (114) 122 (130) 145 (152) 168 (175) 183 cm
Length: custom for your preferred length (total length of the sample is 130 cm)
Armhole depth: 23 (24) 25 (26) 27 (29) 30 (31) 32 cm
Sleeve length (armpit-cuff): 48 (49) 49 (50) 51 (51) 51 (53) 53 cm or fitting your armlength

Gauge
21 sts x 26 rows = 10 cm knitting in pattern with 5 mm needles (after blocking)

Needles
5 mm circular needle (80 cm and 40 cm)
5 mm double-pointed needles
3 mm circular needle (80 cm and 40 cm)
3 mm double-pointed needles
Cable needle

If you are knitting with magic loop, you don't need 40 cm circular needles or double-pointed needles. You can also use a 4 mm needle for the ribbing to get a more relaxed result.

Materials for the maxi-length version (sample approx. 130 cm)

1100 (1150) 1200 (1400) 1450 (1550) 1600 (1800) 1850 g Novita Icelandic wool (50 g / 90 m)

Or approximately 1900 (2040) 2160 (2450) 2600 (2750) 2870 (3170) 3290 m of another 1-ply worsted/aran yarn, such as Istex Lettlopi, Cascade 220 or Novita Halaus. You can also get gauge with a combination of DK and lace mohair. The materials for the maxi-length version are calculated based on an average height of 164 cm, so if you are shorter or taller, you should adjust the amount of yarn accordingly.

Materials for the sweater version (sample approx. 60 cm)

650 (700) 700 (800) 850 (900) 950 (1050) 1050 g Novita Icelandic wool (50 g / 90 m)

When changing yarn, keep in mind that the yarn used in the samples is a very airy and light aran yarn. If you choose a sturdier and heavier yarn for your project, the result will be significantly heavier. However, if you are knitting a sweater-length piece, a sturdier worsted/aran yarn will work fine.

Tip: Cables are more visible in light colours than in dark.
