rknits | sisko (english)
Simple and easy beginners project! The popular sisko (sister) raglan sweater has now been translated to English.
It is finally here! Sisko (sister in Finnish) has been translated to English! See also #rknitssisko on instagram for inspiration!
Sisko is a simple and easy raglan sweater. It is knitted top down with large needles, resulting in an airy and light sweater that is a joy to knit and wear. Sisko is the classic everyday knitted sweater and it can be worn with everything. This is the first pattern that I have made in English, so there might still be some errors in the text. If you find any mistakes, please let me know! Also suggestions for the next translation are appreciated <3

About the pattern
Sisko “Sister” is a simple raglan sweater and a great beginnner’s project! The pattern includes a couple of alterations, from which you can choose the preferred version. If you choose to knit the cuffs with a smaller sized needle, they will be tighter and for example the neckline will be smaller even though the number of stitches is the same. The rib in the hem will also gather the sweater together more, when knitted with the smaller size, making the shape of the sweater more round. Choose the size of the needles to match your liking!
The other alteration is to have either 2 or 4 stitches between the raglan increases. This only changes the look of the sweater, so you can choose freely whichever style you like the most. By increasing or decreasing the amount of total raglan increases, you are also able to alter the size of the sweater to fit you better. Below you can see the size chart for both sizes.
sisko size chart
chest measurement 108(122) cm
complete length 53(54) cm
sleeve complete length 62(64) cm
armpit - hem 31(31)cm
armpit - sleeve 44(44) cm
PATTERN:
Cast on 100 stitches either on size 3,5 or 7 mm 40 cm long circular needles (or longer if you use magic loop) and knit one, purl one (K1P1) for 18 rows. If you knitted with 3,5mm needles, switch to 7mm size and knit 1 row with stockinette stitches. Simultaneously add 4 place markers (PM) as follows:
Add the 1st PM to the beginning of the row, knit 30 sts (front of the sweater) and add the 2nd PM. Knit 20 sts (sleeve) and add the 3rd PM. Knit 30 sts (back) and add the 4th PM. Knit 20 sts and you will arrive at the first PM.
The front and back of the sweater will have 30 sts and both sleeves 20 sts. The body and sleeves are knitted in stockinette stitch.
Begin the raglan increases with yarn over (YO) in the next row:
Make YO always 1 (2) sts before PM, knit 2 (4) sts and repeat YO. The yarn over is always 1 (2) sts before the PM and 1 (2) after the PM. Knit the YOs through the front of the loop (tfl) of the st on the next row.
Continue the raglan increases every other row until you have 60 (64) sts between the sleeve PMs. In total there are 20 (22) increase rows and 40 (44) rows. If you want to decrease or increase the size of the sweater, end raglan increases earlier or continue them for longer. For example for a size smaller sweater do only 18 raglan increase rows and for a size bigger sweater complete 24 raglan increase rows.
The length of the body is now 27 (31) cm when measured along the line created by the raglan increases.
Place the sleeve stitches 60 (64) sts on a stitch holder and add 6 sts in their place to the needles. Repeat this on both sleeves.
Knit the body 152 (160) sts until the length of the body is 26 cm when measured from the armhole. Switch to size 3,5 mm circular needles (if desired) and K1P1 for 5 cm. Cast off hem sts.
Sleeves:
Take the sleeve stitches 60 (64) sts on a 7 mm 40 cm circular needle and pick up 10 sts from the armhole. Add a PM in the middle of the picked-up st to mark the beginning of the row. In total there are 70 (74) st in the sleeves. Knit stockinette stitch in the round for 4 (3,5) cm. Start the decreases here:
Knit the first 2 and last 2 sts of the row together (k2tog). Repeat these decreases in total 10 (11) times with 4 (3.5) cm between. After decreases, there will be 50 st on the needles.
Continue knitting stockinette stitch in the round until the sleeve is 39 cm long. Switch to 3,5 mm (if desired) double-pointed needles (or magic loop) and start K1P1 rib. Decrease 10 st evenly on the first K1P1 row = 40 st. K1P1 with 40 st for 14 rows and cast off. Knit the other sleeve similarly.
Finishing touches:
Fold the neckband in half and join it on the inside. Weawe in loose threads from the armholes, sleeves and hem to the inside. Steam the sweater and you are done!
